How are you feeling about our transition from fall to winter? I always feel some trepidation about the winter - mostly the darkness. However, a few years ago, astrologer and life coach Tracey L Rogers reminded me that winter, and its darkness, is a time for hibernation. Since then, I have found it helpful to embrace the winter as a time for rest.
Now, that is easier said than done, especially with end of year deadlines/goals and the holidays. Still, when it gets dark at 5pm and a feel that spark of panic, I try to remind myself, that's nature's way of telling me, it's time to rest.
Journaling can help us reinforce our - we need rest, and we deserve rest. We can also journal to identify what forms of rest work for us through the winter. Rest does not always have to be sitting still. There is "active rest" that still gives us ease and restores our energy, such as movement we enjoy, walking outside, our doing a fun hobby.
Here are a few wellness journaling prompts for embracing rest day to day:
What is my body saying to me?
When you start this prompt in your journaling, close your eyes, take some deep breaths, and look within. Put yourself in the perspective of your body, as it is now. What is your body saying to you? This builds our mind-body connection and can help us identify our needs.
One thing I can let go for today:
Especially when we have constant pressure to do everything all the time, it is a discipline to let things go. No, you don't have to do it all. Embracing tradeoffs can be liberating. If it feels scary or hard to let something go because everything feels urgent, try to start with the smallest of things. You can do it.
A moment of ease today...
If you're doing your wellness journaling in the morning, this can be a moment of ease you envision for yourself for the day. Journaling about it increases the chances that you will follow through with it. Alternatively, this journaling prompt can be an end-of-day reflection to look back on, and celebrate, a moment of ease you gave yourself that day. Journaling it can reinforce a habit of rest. Both help us feel more and more empowered to choose rest.
